[Health & Safety] More Lessons In Killing For The Met

Posted by Lex Fear on April 5, 2009

I don’t think I want to be safe anymore. I don’t think I want the police to “protect” me from terrorists, anarchists or active protesters.

I’m not a member of the above groups, which means, being an innocent subject of the UK, my life is at risk when the security services are targetting the above groups.

Once again, security services were on high paranoid alert, itchy trigger fingers, or in this case, itchy baton hand.

And if we are to believe that the slaying of Jean Charles de Menezes was an honest, sincere mistake, WHAT BLOODY LESSONS WERE LEARNED?

I feel sorry for Ian Tomlinson’s widow and family. I feel sorry for the grueling smear and dirty tricks campaign that is about to befall them.

You know the drill by now, check the boxes which apply:

It will probably take about 3-4 years, and in the end they may be lucky to win a simple breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act against the Met, along with a “Sorry” and “Lessons have been learned”.

After all, if they can get away with shooting an innocent man, they can get away with shoving one too.

[G-Wiz] Battery Powered Death Machine

Posted by Lex Fear on June 13, 2007

This Post Is Rated: C for Controversial. Would have been fun if it hadn’t been about a life-threatening contraption built by environMENTALISTS.

If anyone wanted further proof that the environMENT has become more important that human life, last month Top Gear released the G-Wiz Crash tests:

This is the car Red Ken, Global Leader and Supreme Dictator of Londonland, wants you and everyone else to drive one of these awful death-traps.

Here’s a piece cut from the FAQ on G-Wiz manufacturers site:

What about safety in the G-Wiz?
The G-Wiz is a breakthrough product in the fight against climate change… Thanks but we asked about safety
Excessive speed, no seat belts, alcohol & drug usage, and driver error are the main causes of accidents and injuries in the UK…
Just so you know, it’s not our fault if you end up dead in one
Whilst larger, heavier cars in general perform better in crash tests, they are also more likely to injure other road users… Our cars will only kill you
The G-Wiz has a tubular steel space frame which surrounds the driver and passengers. This includes side impact bars and a front crumple zone designed to protect passengers in low speed collisions… Low speed collision = 2mph?

Why have no manufacturer Euro NCAP crash tests been done on the G-Wiz?
Neither the Euro NCAP test nor the Dept of Transport UNECE Regulation 94 test are required or recommended under the European regulation for quadricycles. Both tests are designed for M1 vehicles, primarily cars capable of speeds in excess of 100 mph and not low speed urban vehicles…
Wow, that’s convenient, avoids any marketing problems.
Like all vehicle manufacturers RECC is however constantly reviewing safety features and innovation relative to usage… I feel safer already – as long as the other guy is driving one.

[Blogdeath] Where Do Blogs Go When They Die?

Posted by Lex Fear on May 23, 2007

This Post Is Rated: F for Friendly Post. Nothing here you’ll find insulting your religiosity.

The End of the Road – Raw Carrot
So this is free speech? – Argos Employee
Stand Down – Universal Soldier

Theories

Re-incarnated? Independant Christian Voice
In Purgatory? Dark Side of the Light
Zombified? Quinnblog
Bodysnatched? The Cranky Insomniac Bartender

Is there a blog afterlife? Should there be a charity for abandoned blogs?

I actually like what the cranky insomniac did- but I wish the new tenant would change the title already. I offered up my starter blog when I decided to move on, but sadly had no takers. I moved some of the archive posts over here, but it’s now gone to the abyss.

I’m now feeling my favourite mood. Melancholy.

[Wierd] Is Garfield Dead?

Posted by Lex Fear on August 7, 2006

Prepare for something really depressing. You’re The Man Now Dog have produced a webpage dedicated to a cartoon strip of a Garfield storyline written by Jim Davis on 23-28 October 1989. These are the bona fide article! Set to the eerie music of The Twilight Singers track, “Bonnie Brae“:

Is Garfield Dead?

The strip starts with Garfield waking up in a dark, cold abandoned house and his realisation that he is alone. It ends with the inference that Jon, Odie and everything else in Garfield’s life is merely a mind trip brought on by denial:

“An imagination is a powerful tool. It can tint memories of the past, shade perceptions of the present, or paint a future so vivid that it can entice…or terrify, all depending on how we conduct ourselves today… After years of taking life for granted, Garfield is shaken by a horrifying vision of the inevitable process called time. He has only one weapon…denial…”

It’s even discussed in the Wikipedia’s Garfield article:

“Garfield is playing out in his head to delude himself from realizing the dark turn his life has taken, as he slowly starves to death in an abandoned house”.

Thanks to Boing Boing for the background info on the music -which is absolutely mesmorising.
